Amber + Coenraad celebrated their engagement during a beautiful foggy handfasting ceremony in the Scottish Highlands. We spent a couple of wonderful days adventuring around Glencoe, Loch Awe and Glen Etive.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This wonderful pair travelled from the Netherlands to adventure in Scotland. Recently engaged they wanted to celebrate their engagement in a meaningful and memorable way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For personal reasons, they aren’t sure if they will be able to have their dream elopement wedding in the mountains. Though they live in one of the flattest countries in the world, their hearts are in the peaks. A true outdoor couple, a little bit of their soul lives in Scotland and they’ve always felt at home here when they’ve visited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To celebrate their love and engagement, I helped to create an adventure experience in the Scottish Highlands and we facilitated a Celtic handfasting ceremony<\/a>. Alongside their furry friend Arya, we spent the morning enjoying the sun rise up over Kilchurn Castle<\/a> at Loch Awe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scottish highlands handfasting ceremony – Glencoe<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

As we began to lose the light and the fog began to roll in thick and heavy, it was time for the handfasting commitment ceremony. We’d adventured around the Highlands all day and this place really spoke to Amber and Coen. Dave facilitated a traditional Scottish handfasting. He started with a drinking of the quaich (a 2-handled cup) to symbolise their love and joining together. We popped some mead, a honey wine, in there – one of our faves! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then Dave bound their hands together using a handfasting cord we’d made to symbolise their bond and commitment. For their ears only, Amber + Coenraad shared their intentions with each other for the future which they’d written for the ceremony. Though we could not make out the words, we could see that this opportunity to share those thoughts (with intention and ritual) was moving for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
